Curls Are The Trend For 2021 – Gill Berry

Gill Berry from the JOICO EDT Team has shared her salon opening trends for 2021.

With 2020 a lost year in hairdressing, we as hairdressers have high hopes for 2021 in terms of trends and creativity. As we look towards our salon’s  re-opening and quite possibly the busiest year of our lives, our attention turns to the new trends that will take clients by storm.

Many clients have received only one  appointment in the last 12 months, some none at all therefore their hair will all be in need of some serious TLC from their chosen stylists in terms of hair health and care. As well as this, we expect the clients to become a lot more creative, having lived over a year embracing their natural hair colours and texture – forced into this by the closure of the salons in the global pandemic.

However, as hairdressers and business owners, our attention now turns to the trends that will take the salons by storm in 2021. Below I’m sharing my top 3 trends  that I think will make the cut in 2021.

Creative Colour

It’s back and more prominent than ever. Creative colour has always been hugely popular with clients of different ages and personalities however I expect to see many more clients embrace creative colour and opt for something out with their comfort zone. Colours such as ruby red, burnt orange, pink passion and of course the Pantone Colours will all be hugely popular.

For those who are new to the creative colour world, more subdued pastel tones which give a much softer introduction to colour and can be easily maintained.

Curls, curls and more curls!

The styling trend of 2021 and the one that everyone will embrace in one way, shape or form. This year is all about the volume and big hair. Curls have been hugely popular throughout the years however this year will see clients opt for large barrel curls, tight coil curls or relaxed curls. As stylists, we are fortunate to be educated in so many different hair types, especially when it comes to styling therefore the trend can always be adapted to suit the individual.

Rejuvenated retail

Yes, retail is one of the top trends we will welcome when our salons reopen in the next few weeks – one I am very excited about! Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, many clients have expressed their need for professional products, as they realised just how much of a positive impact these have on their hair. From colour saving shampoo to heat protection sprays, hair masques to dry shampoo, the last 12months have transformed the opinions of clients and we fully expect them to purchase retail when the visit for an appointment.
