Each year, the Met Gala delivers more than just unforgettable fashion moments – it sets the tone for the beauty industry, too. The 2025 event was no exception, with hair taking centre stage as celebrities and stylists pushed boundaries and redefined red carpet glamour.

From sculptural updos and architectural braids to romantic curls and ultra-glossy finishes, the evening was a masterclass in artistry and imagination. In this blog, we break down the top hair trends spotted at this year’s Met Gala, spotlighting the techniques, textures, and accessories that are about to dominate salon requests everywhere. Ready your combs and color palettes—these are the styles your clients will be asking for next.

Jay Birmingham, Celebrity Session Stylist – Shakira

“If sunshine was a hair colour – it would be Jam Blonde! This golden blonde hue is infused with orange and yellow ribbons seamlessly blended throughout to add depth and dimension to the colour. At last night’s Met Gala, Shakira paired her jam blonde colour with her naturally loose curls – harmonising with her golden undertones and dark features. This honey-infused shade is perfect for the warmer months, glowing and glimmering in that golden hour sun! Jam Blonde will be dominating hair trends this summer!”

Tina Farey, Editorial Director at RUSH Hair – Emma Chamberlain

“I was absolutely obsessed with Emma Chamberlain’s punk-inspired pixie at the Met Gala. When it comes to hairstyles that are trending, the impact that the ‘pixie’ cut has had in recent years is undeniable. The style has taken the world by storm, renowned for its versatility and boldness, all whilst being completely customisable to the individual’s personal preference. Emma embodied her inner punk with this look – fusing a classic cut with a fresh contemporary approach. She paired this cut with a set of side swept bangs and an icy platinum blonde colour which elevated the look. The styling was the main focus, from the graduated layers blended throughout to the hair’s dramatic height – this look was made for Emma!”

“Joey King’s beautiful Hollywood Waves were the star of the show for me – those large bouncy curls were so dreamy! This timeless hairstyle oozes glamour and sophistication. Start with teasing the crown to achieve that effortlessly voluminous look and use a large barrel round brush to blow-dry the hair, clipping the section once finished. Finish by lightly spritzing the hair with hairspray, then release the curls, brushing them through and style as desired. The middle parting added a sultry essence of mystery to the look which was beautifully paired with Pantone’s Colour of the Year – Mocha Mousse! For me, a big bouncy blow-dry screams old Hollywood glamour – Joey looked so chic dressed in custom Miu Miu!”

Safy Burton, Owner of Safy B’s Hair Salon – Gigi Hadid

“Gigi Hadid’s retro-inspired look was an absolute knockout – merging both contemporary and vintage influences to create a look which exuded sheer elegance. The style was influenced by 1940s victory rolls, which was created by moulding rosettes at the crown of the hair to achieve that sculpted, sleek appearance. The lengths were left in soft finger waves to heighten the glamourous effect, closely followed by lots of hairspray to hold everything in place. Gigi’s look was an acknowledgement of the Old Hollywood influences that are still so prevalent in the hair industry – always being paired closely with a modern twist! She looked absolutely gorgeous”

Chris Grimley, Textured Hair Specialist, Owner of Fusion Hair Co & Textured Curl Academy – Doechii

“Doechii made her debut at the 2025 Met Gala in the most unforgettable way, with her incredible voluminous afro in all its gorgeous glory! Doechii is known for pushing boundaries with her style, and her beautiful, bold afro framed her tailored look like a sculpted crown. With the theme of this year’s Met Gala being ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’, she truly understood the assignment! It was a masterclass in precision, intention, and cultural heritage, with her hair shaped and crafted like a work of art to produce a showstopping red carpet look. For me, it was a stunning celebration of naturally textured hair. It was polished, powerful, and showcased the beauty and versatility of afro-textured hair on the global stage at one of the biggest fashion nights of the year. It’s refreshing to see more and more styles like this on the red carpet that honour the beauty of naturally textured hair without compromise and allow people to show up fully as themselves”.

Suzie McGill, Rainbow Room International Artistic Director – Tyla

“Tyla’s curly blonde pixie cut gave a real essence of old Hollywood glam, it has such a 1960s feel from the golden age of cinema. Her pixie cut was styled with bouffant curls, and the shade was a flattering honey blonde, which made the look feel modern and fresh. The style framed her face beautifully; the cut was striking and styled perfectly with voluminous waves. A short style like this is such a chic choice and great for high-profile events, it draws attention to the bone structure, eyes and neckline. It was elegant and glamorous without trying too hard, and it complemented her gown beautifully without competing with it. The warm honey shade added softness and dimension and caught the light beautifully, giving her skin a radiant glow – it’s a shade that I expect we will be seeing a lot more of this summer”.

Brian ‘Leo’ McCallum, Owner of ROAR Hair & Beauty – Kerry Washington

“It was great to see lots of bold hair trends at this year’s Met Gala. There were so many creative looks, but one that stood out for me was Kerry Washington’s low bubble ponytail; it brought a playful twist to the red carpet! It struck that perfect met Gala balance for me, a mix of fashion forward, experimental and regal. The bubble effect adds a whimsy and modern look, making it an elevated alternative to the traditional sleek ponytail. It also adds a unique texture and dimension and can be customised with lots of different accessories for various occasions to add a personal touch and further enhance the look.  Kerry’s look, paired with her incredible wide-brimmed hat, added visual interest and depth to the overall look, making it a standout choice for this year’s red carpet and theme”
