Ulta Beauty continues to redefine what’s possible in the professional beauty space – supporting artists at every stage of their careers, empowering trend-led education, and curating a community of passionate creatives from across the country.

And that is why, we at SalonEVO, shine a spotlight on Ulta Beauty through the pages of our magazine.

Education… with Meghan Felicione & Jerwin Carlos

For both Meghan Felicione and Jerwin Carlos, the right education became the catalyst for true growth. Meghan reflected on her early experiences, telling us: “Back when I was in beauty school, the education just wasn’t up to par. When it came to cutting, we never even broached a curly cut. The only textured education I got was flat ironing or blow drying at the hottest temperature – so, not great!”

Jerwin faced his own challenges, noting: “In school, I was always the last to finish a haircut. Keeping up with the pace was tough,” he said. Yet, both stylists noted that education isn’t just about building skills and working fast, which is how it often feels is beauty school – it’s about evolving with intention. “You shouldn’t pressure yourself to work quickly – especially when you’re at that early stage where you’re still mastering your craft,” said Meghan. “It’s all about that trial and error.”

What changed everything was joining Ulta Beauty. “I was ready for something new – and the education, the culture, the progression at Ulta Beauty were exactly what I wanted,” said Meghan. “Within five years of starting my career, Ulta released an opening for an educator, and I went for it.”

Jerwin added: “We have so many systems that help you elevate. There’s texture and cutting education, support from Ulta Beauty educators, and our Trendspiration initiative. It breaks down the fear that can come with learning to cut or color different textures.” He added, “In my early days, an Ulta Beauty educator came to our salon to go back to basics. At the end of that day, I told her, ‘I want to do what you do.’ She sat down, mapped out the steps – and within a year, I was an educator myself.”
