From scalp care misconceptions to menopause-related hair thinning, GLOWWA ambassadors and education experts are encouraging salons to challenge the growing wave of misinformation surrounding hair health.
As conversations around hair wellness continue to dominate social media, clients are arriving in salon more informed than ever before, but not always accurately informed. According to GLOWWA’s Global Head of Education Jerome Wilson there is a growing need for stylists to feel confident leading more holistic, education-led consultations around hair health, wellbeing and lifestyle.
Jerome explains: “Consumers are far more educated now, and they’re coming into the salon with clear expectations of what they want. The challenge is that there’s also a lot of misinformation out there. As professionals, we have a responsibility to raise the bar on education and help clients properly understand what’s happening with their hair, whether that’s linked to hormones, stress, nutrition, scalp health or lifestyle factors. Hair concerns rarely sit in isolation.”
Created by founder and nutritional therapist Suzanne Cooper following her own personal experience with hair loss, GLOWWA takes a science-led, inside-out approach to hair wellness, combining salon expertise with targeted internal nutrition designed to support healthier hair from within. The multi-award-winning brand has built a global following through its education-first approach, supporting salons with deeper consultation conversations around hair thinning, scalp health, stress, hormones and overall wellbeing.
At the heart of the portfolio is GLOWWA Hair Food, a multi award-winning daily supplement formulated to support stronger, healthier-looking hair from within, alongside targeted formulas including GLOWWA Hair Food Meno for women before, during and after menopause, and GLOWWA Hair Food Mens, an all-in-one formula designed to support stronger, fuller-looking hair alongside energy, wellbeing and daily performance.
Complementing professional salon care with an inside-out approach to wellness, GLOWWA has also expanded its collagen category with the award-winning GLOWWA Collagen Creamer and newly launched clear GLOWWA Collagen, designed to bring greater versatility to everyday wellness routines.
Formulated with patented bioactive collagen peptides clinically proven to stimulate natural collagen production, the collagen range supports healthier-looking hair and skin from within, helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and pores, while supporting hair strength, skin hydration and overall wellbeing.
One of the biggest myths GLOWWA ambassadors say they continue to hear surrounds menopause and thinning hair.
Jack Mead says: “One of the biggest misconceptions is that thinning hair during menopause is ‘just part of getting older’ and there’s nothing you can do about it. The reality is that hormonal changes can absolutely affect hair density, texture and growth, but that doesn’t mean clients simply have to accept it. With the right support, whether that’s scalp care, nutrition, stress management, hormonal support or targeted supplements such as GLOWWA Hair Food Meno, alongside professional guidance, hair can often become stronger, fuller and healthier over time.”
Scalp care remains another major area of confusion, particularly around the growing belief that washing hair less frequently automatically leads to healthier hair.
Errol Douglas MBE explains: “One of the biggest myths is believing the scalp should be left alone for days on end and that somehow not washing is always ‘better’. A neglected scalp can become congested with oil, product build-up and pollution. Over time, that impacts the scalp environment and ultimately the condition of the hair itself. A healthy scalp is the foundation of everything and shampooing isn’t the enemy when it’s done correctly with balanced, professional products. Looking after your scalp is one of the most important parts of healthy hair, which is why conversations around holistic hair wellness, like those championed by GLOWWA, are becoming so important within salons. Supporting scalp health from within, with nutrients such as Vitamin B12 and Zinc found in GLOWWA Hair Food, is becoming a much bigger part of that conversation too.”
Another growing misconception salons are seeing centres around hair oils and hair growth.
Sarah Louise Keane says: “Hair oils absolutely have a place within a healthy hair routine, particularly for moisture retention and helping to minimize breakage on existing hair. One of the biggest misunderstandings is that oils alone will stimulate new hair growth, when in some cases, excessive oil use can actually congest the scalp and follicle area. True hair health needs a more joined-up approach, supporting the hair internally as well as externally, which is why more clients are investing in inside-out hair solutions such as GLOWWA.”
As conversations around male hair health continue to grow, so too does the need to separate fact from fiction.
According to Alan Beak, “One of the oldest hair loss myths is that your hairline comes solely from your mother’s side of the family,” says Alan. “The reality is hair health is influenced by a combination of genetics, DHT sensitivity, age, lifestyle and overall wellbeing. More men are now recognizing that looking after your hair isn’t just about what you apply topically, but also what’s happening internally too, including supplementation and what you’re putting into your body overall.”
Jerome believes this shift towards more holistic conversations is transforming the role salons now play within the hair health space. “There’s a real appetite now for stylists to understand what’s happening beneath the surface,” he explains. “A few years ago, if a client came into the salon concerned about hair quality or hair loss, the only solutions we could really offer were topical. Now, we’re looking at things differently. It’s about combining what we do in the salon with what’s happening internally too. Healthy, thick, beautiful hair will always be desirable and that’s why hair health education should sit alongside cutting and color as a priority within the industry.”
Through its education programme, GLOWWA continues to support salons with a stronger focus on hair wellness, consultation skills and inside-out hair health, helping professionals feel more confident navigating increasingly complex client conversations.
