The very first winner of Denman’s College Star Competition has been announced. The competition, which attracted over 500 entries from hairdressing and barbering students across the UK, challenged college students to enter their best blow-dry work – with Yasmin Ainsley of East Durham College being crowned the very first College Star and winner of Denman’s Big Blow Out Competition 2024 winner.
The stakes were high with the prize of £1000, plus a £200 tool bundle for the college hairdressing department. Students who entered the online competition, that launched in February, were asked for an image of the front, back and each side of just one brilliant blow-dry.
Denman CEO Kevin McNamee said: “We were completely blown away by the volume and quality of the entries. We were looking for one beautifully executed blow-dry and it was incredibly hard to choose. We are so inspired by these students; the future of hairdressing is in their hands and we feel confident that each of them will go on to achieve great things. Denman is also hugely grateful to the hardworking tutors who clearly encouraged and supported their students in entering. Our winner showed that little extra polish to take the prize!”
Winner Yasmin Ainsley said: “I’m so, so happy. I’m pleased with the blow-dry, so I’m glad the judges liked it. I created this look during the college day and entered from my phone. Thank you, Denman!”
