Golspie Salon Goes Green

Popular Golspie hair salon Identity has moved into refurbished premises in the village.

The business is now housed in the bottom floor of the distinctive Fountain Buildings on Main Street.

Vacant for a number of years, the handsome property has been brought back to life.

The last business to be run in the building was Fraser’s Grocery Store and three former employees, Sally Gordon, Catherine Sutherland and William Jack, opened the new salon last month.

Identity founder and head stylist Valerie Mackay said: “I made use of my time during lockdown to renovate the salon with the help of my partner Trevor Jack along with Billy Mackenzie and friends.

“We are delighted with the way it has all turned out.”

The Identity team has been joined by Dona Bruce of Tiger Lily Beauty who is working from a building at the back of the salon.

Ms Mackay has signed up to be part of the Green Salon Collective which recycles, composts and recovers hair and products used in the industry.

Identity is the first salon north of Inverness to do so.

The collective recycles used foils, empty colour tubes, chemicals, PPE, plastic, paper and even salon towels.

“We are very excited to become a much more sustainable salon,” said Ms Mackay.
