As we step into a fresh year, the January Blues can cast a shadow on our spirits. In this personal reflection, I, Lea Shaw, owner of Rural Fringe Salon, share how we tackle the January Blues head-on, making our salon a place full of positivity and rejuvenation for our lovely clients.
As the driving force behind Rural Fringe, my journey has been one of passion for hairstyling and a commitment to creating more than just a salon – a community that fosters creativity and a sense of belonging. The reality is, January can be tough for many. Recognising this, Rural Fringe is not just a place for hair transformations but a salon where we uplift spirits and create an experience for clients where they can relax.
Beyond the conventional salon norms, Rural Fringe is all about embracing a holistic approach. It’s not just about outward appearances; it’s about creating an atmosphere where clients feel seen, heard, and cared for, inside and out. I recommend having a ‘silent appointment’ option on your booking system for clients to easily add this on alongside their hair appointment. For some people, talking during a dark time is the last thing they need so this is a great way to respect your clients’ boundaries in a way that isn’t awkward or embarrassing for either party.
To combat the January Blues, we dive right in to vibrant and uplifting seasonal trends. A new hairstyle or a burst of colour can work wonders in boosting moods, allowing our clients to step into the new year with renewed confidence. If your client wants a fresh start with their hair, help them find the best option and personalise it in the best way to suit them and their lifestyle. Your clients value your opinion and expertise more than you know!
Rural Fringe Salon is not just a space for hair transformations; by blending creativity, community spirit, and a ‘clients come first’ approach. I aim for Rural Fringe to be a place where clients not only leave looking fabulous but feeling revitalised and ready to embrace the possibilities of the year ahead.
