For many, a haircut is a routine experience, but for client Tara, it was a real turning point and transformation. After a very difficult 18 months personally, her naturally curly textured hair had become matted and unmanageable, and she believed her only option was to shave it all off.
Yet, in the skilled hands of textured hair specialist Chris Grimley, the outcome was very different; it was an opportunity to restore her natural texture and lay the foundation for healthier hair growth.

At her salon, Fusion Hair Co., Chris worked carefully to remove the matted sections while preserving as much hair as possible. By gently teasing out the remaining curls, she created a style that not only suited Tara but set her on a path towards stronger, healthier hair.

This approach, one that prioritises care, structure, and long-term hair health, is central to Chris’s philosophy. As the founder of Textured Curl Academy, she is dedicated to ensuring that stylists across the UK are equipped with the knowledge to nurture textured hair, rather than simply shape it.
“Healthy hair starts with understanding its unique structure,” Chris explained. “For textured hair, this means approaching every cut with care, ensuring that each strand is preserved and strengthened rather than compromised.”
Beyond the technical restoration, Tara’s haircut was a moment of renewal, an opportunity to let go of the weight of the past and embrace a fresh start, highlighting that it’s often much more than ‘just hair’.
After going through such a traumatic time, Tara stated that she felt ‘all the sadness had been cut away’. Moving forward, Taras’s hair is now growing and is in incredible condition. Chris and Tara hope that by sharing this story, it may help anyone who is stuck or might feel embarrassed to receive some help, Chris emphasising that ‘you would not be judged, just simply helped with care in a safe space’.

This transformation also highlights the deeper impact of textured haircare. When approached with expertise, textured hair isn’t just restored, it thrives. The right techniques promote longevity, hydration, and resilience, ensuring hair not only looks good in the moment but continues to flourish over time.
