JRL / Hunter 1114

Donning our cover and kicking off the issue is the latest collection from JRL and Hunter 1114. Featuring a team of hairstylists such as Travis Anthony, Raul Diaz, and Mari de Monte, their latest collection featuring both male and female models shows off the range of styles and results created by JRL and Hunter 1114 products.

Makeup

The makeup artist is often the unsung hero of the hair and beauty world, so often responsible for the final sparkle or drama in a collection, event style, or photoshoot. Introducing this feature, we introduce Dmitry Potapov, who tells about the importance of teamwork and being a team player when creating shoot concepts and award-winning looks. We also chat with Nohemi Capetillo, the most recent winner of the NAHA Makeup Artist of the Year award. Nohemi talks about her artistic process, and her experiences from all angles of the shoot process. Tara Pimco, owner of Hot Mess Salons and Makeup Studios chimes in to tell about her journey in the beauty world, and her mission to lift fellow women up, and help them sparkle

Halloween

For most of the year, the hair and beauty world is about bringing out the best in natural beauty. However, there is one month a year that is all about challenging yourself to create the supernatural, otherworldly looks: Halloween! Introducing the feature, we chat with Rodrigo Araneda, who is an expert in the unexpected and avant-garde. Frank Cini, Goldwell, Canada Ambassador, gives his advice on how to step out of your comfort zone, and balance your avant-garde looks with day-to-day ones. Award-winning MUA Florencia Taylor talks about how she completely transforms her models for editorial and collection shoots, creating drop-dead gorgeous looks. Finally, you can’t talk about Halloween trends without getting your claws out. Renowned nail artist Kayla Deus walks us through the two bespoke nail sets she created for SalonEVO, how she created them, and what her go-to products and polishes are.

Salon Interiors

For many stylists, nail artists, and cosmetologists, the salon is your home away from home, so it is essential that it is comfortable, inviting, and a fun space for not only your guests, but you and your coworkers too! Based in Chicago, Illinois, Kristine Singer from Solo Salons talks about the fundamentals of salon design, from lighting, colors, to the right furniture. First impressions last a lifetime, and this is well-known at Studio 64 Salon and Spa in Jasper Alabama. Owner Allison Chambless shares how she creates a space that exceeds the expectations of guest’s day after day. At DashBar in Miami, Florida, it’s all about function and fashion. Founder Carla Oliva’s goal is to create a fast and efficient, yet luxurious experience for the busy modern woman. A picture says a thousand words. At Enso Tioga Nail Boutique, the goal is to not only look good, but help clients feel good too, with a focus on healthy, natural products. Bich Nguyen shares her tips to create a warm, inviting, and Instagrammable salon space.

Insurance

As mentioned above, your salon and your space is dear to your heart. We want to make sure salon owners and chair renters have all the right information to ensure their space, their things, and their employees are insured and protected as best as possible. Karen from PPIB shares her advice, tips and insight into the world of salon insurance, and what you need to know. Jodi Shays, owner or Queen Bee Salon and Spa in LA shares her business perspective for insuring your business and employees, and protecting your business.

Genderless Grooming

Long haircuts, short fades, color services, skincare – these services are for everyone. So why are we still defining our services by gender? We talk to several stylists who are revolutionizing the industry and encouraging others to do the same, by taking gender totally out of the equation. Wahl’s Taylor Leven tells us about her new salon, where she specialises in short haircuts and hair art for all. Jamie Digrazia also shares her story of opening a genderless salon, Logan Parlour, where they offer everything, for everyone, and aim to create a safe and welcoming space for all.
