Scots Hairdresser Uses Counselling Qualification to Help Clients

Kerry Anderson, has established a social enterprise at her salon in the capitol city of Scotland, Edinburgh. She has combined both her love of hairdressing along with her qualification in counselling to help disadvantaged children, ” Brave, Strong, Beautiful”.

Anderson worked in the hair dressing industry for 25 years and decided to take a career break to pursue social care – and when she returned to hairdressing she decided to merge the two.

She focuses on supporting young people as she told The National “I have lived experience of that so it’s important to me”. She explains that she find they have the hardest time seeking employment and she hopes that what she does helps combat that.

When asked about how she stayed afloat during the pandemic she said “We won a Scottish Edge award in October 2020 and won £50,000 of funding. We have also been recognised by LaunchMe [a Scottish social enterprise accelerator] so they supported us to grow. All that support really helps a small business“.

Anderson then goes on talking where she sees the business in the next ten years, stating she wishes for her business to continue to be a “hub” for the community – ” We want to continue to grow and help young people have the confidence to grow their own career“.
