While the big UN climate crisis conference (COP 26) draws ever closer and various parts of the world are going up in flames, getting flooded or being hit by tornadoes, Anne Veck shares what can the hairdressing industry can do to help save the planet.
Anne said: “One action we can all take is to reduce our CO2 emissions. Whilst it is not feasible for all salons or households to completely reduce their carbon footprint to zero ( think solar panels and air source heat pumps), we can all switch to a “green” energy supplier. Watch out for greenwashing though and so rather than make a direct recommendation here is a link to a very good guide to choosing which green energy provider to go for.”
Anne and Keith continued: “How hair salons and SMEs generally can do anything if they don’t own land is, of course, a challenge. The answer is actually to tackle sustainability generally. Reducing your energy consumption/reducing CO2 emissions, cutting out single use plastic, challenging your suppliers to source timber and palm oil from accredited sustainable sources and so on will make a difference. If you haven’t already, join Green Salon Collective, not just because of their recycling credentials but also because they give profits to rewilding and nature organisations like Mossy Earth.”
