MODERN MULLET

The mullet has been having more than a moment over the last few years, helped in part by Miley Cyrus and Billie Eilish, among others, and this season looks to be no exception. Harry Styles was first on the scene, rocking up to Steven Stokey-Daley’s SS25 show at The Royal Academy with a fresh version. Modern variations were also seen across the runways, most notably at Marni, where one of my favourite mullets of the season was a mussed-up micro-fringe with feathered sides. What I love about this look is that it has an attitude that screams a rebel yell, while the modern incarnations include a softness and feathered femininity that is decidedly fresh. Instead of a super short fringe, short sides and longer, wispier length at the back, this season, it’s taken on a more relaxed, wispier vibe, making it much more wearable. From wolf cuts (the mullet-shag hybrid) to the mixie (mullet mixed with a pixie cut), it has a pick-n-mix appeal that’s a sweet addition to the new season. For this look from our latest collection, the layered haircut allowed us to create subtle definition and texture using Davines More Inside – This is a Forming Pomade. Wisps of windswept hair scattered across the temples and forehead (as seen on the runway at Grace Ling) let you up the new mullet ante with a sculptural approach to the new season.

BANGED BOBS

Bobs were, quite literally, banging on the SS25 runways, where razor-sharp micro incarnations were the order of the day. Step forward, Marni’s neat, rounded bobs paired with ultra-cropped micro-fringes and Versace’s classic blunt versions paired with full fringes. Banged bobs also took centre hair stage at Christie Cowan (think razor-short micros barely covering the ears with blunt fringes that hit just above the models’ brows, in homage to Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction). L’AGENCE took the French Girl bob lead this season, utilising soft waves throughout, while Harris Reed added soft flicks for subtle volume and definition alongside curled fringes. At Myla and Davis, bobs are one of our signature timeless styles, and we love to play around with the intricacies each season. This style is a hit with clients for its low-maintenance appeal in each of its incarnations. Still, it can be taken to new heights by being perfectly precise (a la Carolina Herrera) or for a more relaxed summer vibe, a fringe and waves can be added for some new season nonchalance. Consider it more bang for your banged bob buck. Speaking French to perfect the Parisian vibe is optional.

EAU SO GOOD

There was a sea of wet-look hair on the SS25 runways, where shows were awash with looks reminiscent of a 90s Kate Moss Calvin Klein ad. Transgender model Alex Cosani opened for Grace Ling’s SS25 show in New York with long, damp locks, while over at Alaïa, Kendall Jenner rocked a slicked-back style. At Ralph Lauren, held at the Hamptons, hair wasn’t wet as such but ultra-shiny with a light-reflecting finish for a glass-like appeal. Over at Harris Reed, it was all about the super structured, high gloss styles achieved by painting gel onto roots. At Myla + Davis we like to turn on the waterworks for our session work, pictured most recently in our latest collection. Here, hair was half dried, and using a wide-toothed comb, it was pulled back off the face and behind the ears. Dollops of Davines Medium Hold Modelling Gel was worked through the hairline for maximum shine. Ends were glossed by lathering with Davines Oi Oil for hydration and a cohesive wet-look shine. This also helps blur the difference between the slicked-back roots and the soft, non-gelled section of strands. Hair was then sprayed with This Is A Shimmering Mist from root to tip for a glassy effect.

UPSIDE DOWN

From embellished updos at Alice + Olivia to singer Aespa Winter’s stylistic old-money variations at Ralph Lauren, it was all about the new way to wear hair up this season. A case in point was Chopova Lowena SS25, where intricate curls with braids rocked the runway. At Carolina Herrera’s SS25 show, locks were swept up in floral bows, while at Eckhaus Latta’s SS25 unveiling, models’ hair saw dyed bows becoming the perfect accessory to topknots. Always a spring/summer favourite, these are perfect for weddings, parties, festivals and holidays, making them the new-season staple. At Myla + Davis, we know our client base prefers low-maintenance, wearable looks that can take them into the new season effortlessly, which is why we know this look will be a winner. For our latest collection, we opted for a messy low chignon. The beauty of this style is that it works on all hair types and textures (as long as the hair is at least collarbone length). For this look, hair was blow-dried smooth using some Davines More Inside This is a Blow-dry Primer before being swept into two ponytails, one at the nape of the neck and the other above it. The top pony was twisted and wrapped around the bottom one before being pinned in place. Some soft, face-framing pieces were pulled out at the front and back for an effortless, new-season appeal.
