Healthy Hair as the Seasons Change: Philip Kingsley

Anabel Kingsley, lead Trichologist and Brand President at hair care giant, Philip Kingsley, shares her top tips on how to keep hair as healthy as possible as we move from Winter to Spring…

  • Frizz – This can worsen in Spring due to more humid weather, or damp and rainy days. When hair gets wet, the hydrogen bonds that help hold it in shape are temporarily broken. This is why you might find your hair gets frizzier during the hotter, wetter months. For curly, frizzy and wavy hair types struggling with dry & damaged hair I recommend our Re-moisturizing Shampoo and for curly & coiled hair I recommend our Moisture Extreme Shampoo. Use products that will coat the cuticle with a hydrophobic (water-repelling) layer. This not only keeps moisture out, preventing hair from becoming frizz, it helps to lock moisture into your strands, so they remain hydrated. I love our Bond Builder Lipid Shield Oil which restores the hair’s outermost protective layer (the lipid layer).
  • Brassiness – As we move into the warmer months, we should (hopefully) see some more sun, and therefore coloured hair may become brassy after sun exposure. To counteract brassiness, use a purple shampoo and conditioner containing optical brighteners when you return from holiday. I recommend the Pure Silver Shampoothat tackles yellow tones in coloured blonde hair after just one wash!
  • Heat Protectant – The changing of seasons brings more events, such as festivals, concerts and holidays, so you may be styling your hair more with heated tools. Make sure to use a heat protectant, such as the Daily Damage Defence. (also have UV protection).
