I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again – life is too short for boring hair. Why would you not take a risk every now and then? In a world where people seem to be scared to stand out, it’s so refreshing when a client sits in my chair wanting a vivid transformation.
From pastels to vivid colours, rainbow hair is the perfect way to express your client’s personality and help your them to stand out from the crowd. So, whether they’re wanting to make a statement or maybe they’re looking for a look for a complete look transformation, rainbow hair is always a great idea to suggest! I’ll be breaking down how to achieve one of my favourite vivid hair transformations and how to get your clients hair shining like the rainbow!
Pre-Lightening: To begin, I pre-lightened the hair using a global bleach application, lifting to a level 10. This created the perfect blank canvas for vibrant colour.
– Sectioning: I took a horseshoe section from temple to temple, extending to just below the crown at the back. This allowed for controlled colour placement and ensured the top and sides would blend cohesively when styled.
– Application: Rainbow Section: Working within the horseshoe section, I brought each subsection forward and applied colour in rainbow panels. As I moved upward through the section, I altered which colour I started with each time. This maintained the rainbow effect on the roots. I kept each colour panel the same width to create a uniform, high-impact finish. Every fifth section, I overlaid Pro Care cling film, making sure I could still see the last colour through it—to keep each section clean, prevent bleeding, and preserve the vibrancy of every shade.
– Underneath – Depth & Contrast: For all the hair beneath the horseshoe section, I used Elumen PK@ALL blended into KK@ALL. This added depth and grounding contrast, ensuring the rainbow tones above really popped.
